It was pretty much gone when I was there, but there were still yucky things that would poke their heads out of people. The worst (endemic to Senegal) was Tuumba fly. You’d hang your clothes on the line and the tuumba fly would lay eggs on your laundry. They’d hatch next to the warmth of your skin and find a nice warm place to burrow in while they grew bigger. I heard that it took a good couple shots of whisky to deal with getting them out. Those would manifest with a little bump on the skin. Looked like a mosquito bite, but you’d notice a little hole. An air hole (ewww!). So, the treatment apparently was to cover the air hole with vaseline, and wait…
